CHADD meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month except July and August from 7:00-9:20 pm at the Severna Park United Methodist Church, at 731 Benfield Rd, Severna Park, MD. If Anne Arundel county schools are cancelled due to weather, then the meeting will be cancelled as well.
Our next meeting will be on January 14th. Nonstimulants in the treatment of ADHD. Are they underutilized? with Diego Escobosa, M.D
Stimulants are commonly the "first-line" treatment for ADHD, but non-stimulant medications like Strattera may be a more effective option for many individuals. Non-stimulants are especially beneficial for adolescents, young adults, and others who require longer-lasting symptom management, particularly during the evening hours.
They are also an excellent choice for individuals who experience side effects from stimulants, have faced challenges with supply issues, or have concerns about regularly using controlled substances.
In this talk, we’ll explore the various non-stimulant options available for ADHD treatment and their potential benefits.
Bio
Diego Escobosa, M.D., is a pediatrician with over 35 years of experience in the field. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in the South Bronx and Queens, he brings a love for all cultures and a deep curiosity for the unique qualities embodied by his patients.
He began his medical training at the University of Maryland Pediatric Program, where he developed a keen interest in Indian Health Service practice and serving communities in the Southwest. In 1998, Dr. Escobosa returned to Maryland to join Dr. Jeffrey Nold at what was then known as Chesapeake Pediatrics. Together, they established Bayside Pediatrics in 2000, and their practice has been a beloved fixture in Annapolis ever since.
In 2022, Dr. Escobosa made the difficult decision to leave Bayside Pediatrics to address some personal health and family matters. After taking time to recharge and reinvigorate, he redirected his focus toward the study of psychiatry, completing hundreds of continuing medical education credits in preparation for working with children and adults facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorder. Dr. Escobosa takes great pride in being an integral part of the vibrant Annapolis community, where he enjoys the local bike trails and beautiful parks. An avowed cat person for many years, he has recently discovered the joy of forming deep bonds with dogs. He, along with his canine companions Mr. Pip and Fergus, can often be seen exploring the Annapolis area and Severna Park, usually on the lookout for a good swimming spot. Dr. Escobosa remains committed to his lifelong mission of serving the patients and families he loves, hoping to make a positive impact in their lives for many years to come.
