7:00 pm: Parenting Children and Adolescents with ADHD: Strategies for Enhancing Successful Family Relationships
Parenting children and adolescents with ADHD can pose a number of significant challenges and cause significant strain on family relationships. The goal of this talk is to review strategies for enhancing your relationship with your child and increasing your ability to influence your child in a positive manner. Specific behavioral strategies will be reviewed for improving parent-child communication, setting reasonable expectations and limits, and strengthening your relationship with your child.
Speakers:
Dr. John Persampiere received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from University of Maryland Baltimore County. Dr. Persampiere completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Department of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He subsequently completed a Postdoctoral fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s child and family therapy clinic before becoming a licensed staff member. Dr. Persampiere currently directs clinical services for the child and family therapy clinic in Odenton and is a licensed psychologist in the state of Maryland.
Dr. Kristin L. Hunt received her Ph.D in Clinical Psychology from Howard University (Washington, D.C.) in 2013. Her graduate training included a year-long APA approved predoctoral internship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute/ Johns Hopkins Hospital in the Behavioral Psychology Department. She is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Child and Family Therapy Clinic at the Kennedy Krieger Institute where she works with children and adolescents presenting with a range of mental health problems. Dr. Hunt’s research interests are broadly in the developmental psychopathology model and include topics such as resilience and trauma. Her work has been published in the Journal of Traumatic Stress and has been presented at the annual conference of the American Public Health Association.
